Saturday Morning at Road America
We arrived at Road America around 9:30 this morning, but we wanted to get out and get situated at a decent vantage point for the IndyCar practice that was scheduled to start at 10:10 am. Therefore, we bypassed the media center and putting up a post.
First we went to Turn Five. That is a great place to watch the race and I thought it might give Susan a good shot to take photos, but the heavy fencing in the turn made for not-so-great shots.
We then made it over to inside Turn Thirteen, as the cars are coming up the hill from Canada Corner, which gave much better photo opportunities, and even inspired me to shoot a video of Jack Harvey going through the turn, as Susan snapped a couple of good photos.
Josef Newgarden continued his strong weekend, by finishing the practice session on the top of the speed charts with a time of 1:45.3399. That equates to a speed of 137.179 mph. Colton Herta was second quick of the session, while Graham Rahal was third in the session. Shortly after the session was over, I got a shot of his doing some type of live stream on social media from his pit.
Romain Grosjean continued his impressive transition from Formula One to IndyCar. After leading yesterday’s session, he was fourth quick this morning. Oliver Askew had a very good session in his substitute role for Rinus VeeKay in the Ed Carpenter Racing Direct Supply car; by finishing fifth quick for the session. That was after he finished eleventh in yesterday’s session.
Rounding out the Top-Ten were Alex Palou, Pato O’Ward, Sébastien Bourdais, Will Power and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
OK, we’re going to go grab some lunch and get ready for qualifying at 1:30 CDT. Susan will have a post here sometime today and I’ll be back for a wrap-up later this afternoon.
