A Monday Morning Conversation
After nearly three months, Paul Dalbey of Fieldof33.com and I got together again via Skype to discuss what has been going on in the world of the NTT IndyCar Series – with our video series Two Sites Unite. To say this is old-school technology would be an understatement.
There are a couple of times throughout the video that one or both of our screens freeze up. When we were finished, I went out to find that Susan had fired up her war-room in our den. She had two lap-tops going (one for work), her iPad and two iPhones all using our wi-fi so that she could do her weekly reports for her job. Added to that, she had fired up Netlix on the TV. It’s a wonder there was any bandwidth left at all as we recorded this on Friday night. But even though the quality is not always the best – there is a lot of ground covered in thirty-two minutes, so stick with it.
Probably the first two-thirds of this video deal with our impressions of the whole James Hinchcliffe/Arrow McLaren SP fiasco. But we also talk about the IndyCar championship as well as looking ahead to next season.
There is not a whole lot of kidding around on here, like there was on the One Take Only videos. This one is mostly all-racing. I am trying to coax John McLallen out of his self-induced retirement for some more episodes of One Take Only, but it may be next spring when it happens, if it happens at all. So for now – you get this
So pour a cup of coffee and listen to a couple of bloggers yammer on about IndyCar. What else do you have to do on a Monday morning?

Well, I think I know what Wednesday’s article is going to be about. Holy crap, Penske bought IMS and the ICS.

I was just about to say, George and Paul coulda-shoulda waited just a little longer to record…
This is wild.

It is certainly a lot to digest. I’d like to think this will be a positive thing but who knows. I talked to my friend that works at IMS and they had no idea this was happening, and do not know if they’re keeping their jobs.

Hasn’t this been a surprising and fascinating morning. I need to get on the PC earlier…

Nah, surely an article about the history of PDM racing, the Penske story is kind of dead already and not that important…. I kid I KID!

SAY IT AIN’T SO! My worst Indy 500 and Indy Car nightmare just happened.

Why ?
November 4, 2019 at 3:26 pm
Just one example from today. Looks like guaranteed spots in the 500 are coming back. The final death to what was once the greatest spectacle in qualifying. More to come.
November 4, 2019 at 9:58 pm
there has been no news, no indication whatsoever that guaranteed spots in the 500 are coming back. There is one thing that is guaranteed, you never fail to be a Debbie Downer here.
November 5, 2019 at 6:16 am
That’s quite a leap. If anything he now has less incentive for guaranteed spots because more cars on bump day means more profit for his track and more attention on the race.

Why? Roger Penske is no loser.
November 5, 2019 at 7:14 am
Precisely. It a win for IMS and the series.

“It’s a wonder there was any bandwidth left at all…”
which summarizes IndyCar for 2020.
