Welcome to Indianapolis 500 Qualifying Day
Welcome to a very sunny and warm Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I checked the forecast just before we left the hotel and it calls for a zero percent chance of rain and a high of 87°. That means there should be a good turnout of fans today, but it does not bode well for fast speeds.
The Juncos Racing team spent all night putting a new car together. They finished it up around 4:00 am and it passed tech inspection around 6:00 am. The troubles they have gone through this week make them a sentimental favorite. I really hope they can make the race. That would be the feel-good story of the month.
As I type, Fernando Alonso is the only car on track. He just turned a lap of 228.065 mph, which is the fastest time of this session. That’s a little misleading, because only five cars have posted times and the other four are all cars in danger of missing the race.
It is now 9:00 and they just announced that the track is now open to all cars. So we are going out to catch practice and then grab a bite to eat. Susan arrived last night and we will be posting throughout the weekend. You can also follow us on Twitter for more photos and videos.
