It’s Race Day at Barber Motorsports Park!
Good morning from a bright and steamy Barber Motorsports Park. While we escaped the rain while we were at the track yesterday, storms rolled through the area last night. Several pop-up canopies that had been set up overlooking Turn Two, had been pretty much destroyed when we rode past them this morning. Our parking lot was almost like a lake. We got here early before ruts had been formed, but it should be interesting getting out after the race.
We have been staying at the same hotel as the Dale Coyne team. The breakfast area this morning was mostly crew guys wearing either SealMaster or Cly-Del shirts. They’ve had a good weekend so far with both cars starting in the Top-Ten and one in the Firestone Fast Six. We rode in the shuttle from the parking lot with a couple of guys from the DragonSpeed team. They didn’t look quite as upbeat as the Coyne guys were at breakfast.
A few minutes from now, the F3 cars will be taking the track for their second race of the weekend. Later this morning, after the IndyCar warm-up at 11:10, the Porsche GT3 cars will be racing, followed by the Super Trofeo Lamborghinis.
So it’s another full day of track activity until the NTT IndyCar Series race starts just a little after the coverage starts today at 3:00 local time (CDT). Fortunately, it looks like it should be a dry and sunny day for the race. Now, after saying that – I’m sure when you tune in this afternoon, there will be a squall going through but it certainly doesn’t look like that will be the case as I type.
I still go with Scott Dixon winning this race. He’s been quiet all weekend, if starting third is your definition of quiet – but that’s when he’s usually the most dangerous.
I’ll be back for a wrap-up after the race and then I’ll have my usual Random Thoughts on Monday morning. In the meantime, please follow us on Twitter. Follow me at @Oilpressureblog and Susan at @MrsOilpressure for photos and videos. But the cell/wi-fi service here is pretty poor, so tweeting is sometimes a problem – but we’ll try.
Enjoy the race!
