Welcome to Day Two at Barber
Mission accomplished! We actually got here early enough for all three of us to have seats for the day in the open-seating Media Center here at Barber Motorsports Park. Of course, the major news outlets all have assigned seats, but the remaining seats are first-come, first serve. We arrived at 8:40 on Friday and Susan was the one that had no chair. We got here at about 7:45 this morning and she is sitting beside me as I type, with Paul Dalbey two rows back. All is right with the world.
It’s a warm and beautiful day at the track…for now. Practice is at 10:45 local time (CDT) and Qualifying is at 3:00. The weather should be like this for practice, but storms are supposed to roll through around 2:00. Assuming qualifying is not washed out, the weather could make things very interesting as far as the starting grid goes. Unfortunately for some of the teams, they could have a late night repairing crash damage.
There is another full day of racing on tap. As I type, F3 Qualifying is taking place. Following that will be qualifying for the MX-V Cup. As I said yesterday, watching those Mazda Miatas go at it on track can sometimes produce the best action of a weekend.
That’s what I enjoy about road courses, there is track action scheduled from early morning until dusk. This weekend is no exception.
Sometime later this morning or early afternoon, Susan will have a very interesting post about a nice long chat she had with one of the driver’s wives yesterday. It will make you a fan of this driver, simply by how accommodating his wife is; which is not something you can say about all the wives – most, but not all. I’ll be back here late this afternoon to wrap up what we witnessed in qualifying.
In the meantime, you can follow us on Twitter for photos and videos. You can follow me at @Oilpressureblog or Susan at @MrsOilpressure. Also check out Paul Dalbey’s site, Field of 33, listed on my blogroll to the right. Please check back later on this morning.

I’ll watch a recorded qualifying tv show this evening. If weather forecast looks favorable, and I feel motivated, I’ll drive north tomorrow morning to view racing at B.M.P.

MX-5, not MX-V. 😉

All I know is, I’ve owned an old 1995 Miata as a play-around car since 2003. The owner’s manual says “MX-V”

Really? That’s interesting! I’ve been a fan of the Miata since the first generation, have raced virtual ones online many times, I’ve never seen it referred to as the MX-V. Here it was known as the Miata for the first few generations but in the rest of the world it’s always been known as the MX-5. I hope to own one as a play-around car one day.
