So Much To Be Thankful For
We’ve reached that time of year again to push away from the mundane things in life and pause to think about what we are thankful for. For me, it’s been anther great year to pursue my passion and hobby by going to IndyCar races and relaying my experiences to all of you here. I am very lucky to have a wife who shares my passion and is able to be with me while I do this. This blogging adventure would not be near as fun without Susan along for the ride.
I am also fortunate that IndyCar allows us to infiltrate the inner-circle of legitimate motorsports journalists. The series, the tracks and the legitimate journalists have all been very welcoming over the years, as we infiltrate their turf. I hope they all know just how much we appreciate that.
As far as this site is concerned, I am most grateful for you readers. Next May 1, will mark the ten-year anniversary of this site. While it continues to gain more readers every year, many of you have been very loyal and have been here since practically the beginning. I’m thankful for the old and new readers that have allowed this site to keep growing in readership year after year.
This may not be the most traveled of IndyCar sites, but I’ll promise you that the regular visitors and commenters to this site are the most knowledgeable anywhere. I’ve been to the other sites and I see what some people spew out. It’s rare that anyone gets out of line here, and I’m thankful for that.
As we have done for years, we will be traveling to my mother’s house for Thanksgiving tonight after work. She turned ninety-four this past summer, but she still has her health. She still drives, still sings in the church choir and goes to an exercise class three times a week. She’s probably in better shape than I am. Although I’ll handle the turkey, she is still cooking most of the side-dishes. I am very thankful that after all these years, I can still go to my mother’s house for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This year, my son that lives in Atlanta will be joining us. He is twenty-nine now, but unlike his sister, who is thirty – It’s been a while since he’s joined us for any holiday. While I see him several times a year, I’m not sure when he last saw his grandmother. He actually arrived there last night. I’m thankful that they get to spend some alone time together. The rest of us will get there tonight. My son leaves Friday afternoon and we will get back to Nashville Friday night, so that we can go to the Tennessee-Vanderbilt football game on Saturday afternoon. I’m thankful to spend Thanksgiving with both of my kids under the same roof for the first time in years.
Since I don’t want to be pounding a keyboard over the busy Thanksgiving weekend, I will follow my usual routine and push away from here for a few days. There will be no post here on Friday Nov 23 or on Monday Nov 26, while I take a little break from here. I will return here on Wednesday Nov 28.
As you see, I have a lot to be thankful for. We all do. Some just have to search a little bit harder than others. I’m lucky that I don’t even have to search. I’ve had a lot of good things happen to me over the years.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend. I’ll see you in one week on Wednesday Nov 28.

I’m thankful for the Oilpressure blog. It may not be the most travelled IndyCar site, but this blog and Robin Miller’s Mailbag are my only regularly scheduled weekly visits and I look forward to both equally, they are the highlights of my week. Thank you George and Susan for all you do, enjoy your well-earned break and have a wonderful Thanksgiving! (This goes for my fellow commenters as well)

I am thankful that 17 year old race car driver Sophia Floersch is recovering well this Thanksgiving week from multiple surgeries following her terrifying crash Sunday at Macau.

George…I’m thankful that we got to meet at the Titans/Colts game. Also that I will see five of my six kids on Thanksgiving. Also thankful that, like you, I have an awesome wife. Have a great weekend!
