Lightening Up the Month of May
With the news that James Hinchcliffe and Pippa Mann will miss this year’s Indianapolis 500 and the ensuing debates over bumping that followed, tensions seem to be running a little high among fans. What better way to lighten things up than to have a mindless episode of One Take Only?
The Month of May almost doubles the normal daily readership here, so there may be many here this month that are unfamiliar with what One Take Only is. It is the videoblog of Oilpressure.com. Every now and then on a very irregular basis, my friend John McLallen and I set up a camera and just start talking IndyCar in my backyard. There is no script or outline (can’t you tell?), it is unrehearsed and unedited. We just show what we get…which is usually a lot of nothing.
In this episode, John and I talk about this past weekend’s qualifying, and we also look ahead to this weekend’s Indianapolis 500. We also talk about the green chairs from IMS that each of us bought and took possession of about three weeks ago. What John did with his is disturbing, to say the least.

He painted the green chair??? I have no words…very disappointing! I’m going the opposite route, I plan to put some kind of clear-coat on mine to preserve its rusty character exactly as it is.

I don’t think painting the green chair was the worst thing John did. He referred to the Penske cars not making the race in 1995 as a tragedy or some such description. Actually for me it was the most wonderful Bump Day I ever attended. As I recall the final Penske car we eliminated on the final run. I was never so happy on a Bump Day in my life. If I could paint that one and seal it for all time I would!

I appreciate the nostalgic look, but making the chair shine like a new penny doesn’t sound like a bad idea. I’ll slightly lean toward John on this one.
