It’s Pole Day/Bump Day at IMS

Good morning (afternoon) from a hot and muggy Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We were not here for the start of practice. We met Paul Dalbey and his son, Jackson, at Charlie Brown’s this morning for breakfast. Unfortunately, a lot of race fans had the same idea. We had to wait for our table, but it was well worth the wait. As we were in the parking lot, we could hear the cars on track for the start of the first practice.

Right now, the twelve cars that will run for the pole are on-track, trying to find more speed. At 1:00, the four participants in the Last Chance Qualifying will practice for an hour. At 3:05, the fast Twelve will battle for position and will set positions 7-12. Then the Last Chance Qualifying will take place at 4:15, to determine which of the four drivers will be going home. Then at 5:25, the run for the pole will be settled among the remaining six drivers. After that, we will know the starting lineup of the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500.

Please Note: I will have a late afternoon post to wrap up the Last Chance Qualifying. However, while we are going to stay until the end – we need to hit the road immediately. Last year Qualifying ended at 3:00, allowing us to get home at a decent hour. This year it is over at 6:00. If we stayed for me to do a proper wrap-up, we would not get home until after midnight – and I have to return to work tomorrow morning.

But I will have a Random Thoughts post on Monday morning. Either Susan will drive while I type, or I will drive and dictate to Susan. But there will be a post here on Monday.

Please check back after the Last Chance Qualifying. We are now going to go wander around for a while.
