It’s Day Two at Road America!
Good morning from a hot and steamy Road America. Yesterday afternoon got pretty hot, but that was nothing compared to what today should be. By tomorrow, temps are projected to be 20° warmer than Friday. Yikes! I’ll have to remind myself to drink plenty of water – something I don’t normally do.
One thing I forgot to mention yesterday, was the crowd. In all the years we’ve been coming here, we’ve never seen as large a crowd on a Friday as we saw yesterday. In the big picture, that’s a great sign. It shows how popular this race has become to the surrounding area. But personally, the large crowd made it tough to get around. There were long lines at concessions, and the excellent gift shop they have here was packed. Friday is the normal time to shop there, before everything gets picked over. I hope they have a lot of extra stock in the back, or most items will be gone by this afternoon.
That will do it for us for now. We will probably stay on the golf cart most of the day, just to save our steps and enjoy sitting in the shade. We may not go into the pits at all today. Please check back later. Just to get out of the heat, one of us may post here between practice (11:00 EDT on FS1) and qualifying (2:30 EDT on FS1), but I’ll definitely be back to wrap things up at the end of the day. Please check back throughout the day.
