It’s Qualifying Day at IMS!
Good morning from a sunny, breezy and extremely cool Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The tornado system that went through the Midwest overnight, bought cold temps to the area today. We had two large purple and red cells go through last night. Both contained lots of hail. Fortunately, my car sustained no damage that I’m aware of. Other parts of the country were not so lucky. St. Louis was slammed yesterday afternoon, and Somerset, Kentucky was devastated last night. I have friends that live there and hope they are OK. Prayers go out to all of those affected.
Marcus Armstrong had a hard crash this morning in the early practice session. His car was badly damaged and it took him a while to exit the car under his own power. As he was loaded in the ambulance sitting up on the stretcher, I noticed he was holding his head. The last I heard, he had not been cleared to drive.
Rumors are swirling in the Media Center who might be available if Armstrong is not cleared. Some have said Tony Kanaan, since he went through the refresher a couple of days ago. Others have suggested Linus Lundqvist. He would need a refresher, but he has familiarity with Ganassi and Meyer Shank. Stay tuned.
It’s almost time to qualify. Marcus Ericsson drew the first spot. One thing is certain, he will have cool conditions. Please check back throughout the day. Susan will have a post on the new upscale Infield Gift Shop sometime this afternoon. I will be back after qualifying is done late this afternoon.
