A Quick Note Before the Race
Good afternoon from a sunny and warm Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After a good night of sleep and having a leisurely (free) breakfast at the hotel – we arrived at the track around 11:00 this morning. MrsOilpressure is here today and is feeling much better. Although we brought a wheelchair with us, she wanted to leave it in the car. I’m not surprised.
Just as we dropped off our stuff, we headed to the pits for the Morning Warmup. Josef Newgarden had the fastest lap, but the big story coming out of the warmup is that Santino Ferrucci suffered his second engine failure in less than three weeks.
His AJ Foyt team will be busy with an engine change just before the green flag at 4:30 pm EDT (live on FOX). Due to the current rules, Ferrucci will have one more engine change for the season, before he starts incurring grid penalties later in the season. I think they need to come up with another way to penalize the engine manufacturers more and the driver less. I really don’t think Ferrucci is the one that has caused his two engine failures, but he will surely pay the price every time an “unauthorized engine change” takes place later in the season.
After the final practice was over, we walked over to Honda Hospitality for lunch. We are back up here for now.
We have been told of a new high-end gift shop that is on the grounds. It’s in a temporary structure we saw them erecting when we were here for the Open Test in April. Several people have made it a point to tell us about it, so we are going to go check it out before the race.
Susan may or may not have a quick post here before the race. Whether she does or not, I’ll be back with a race re-cap afterwards. Please check back later.
