Welcome to IMS in April!
After the past two Open Tests being affected by rain and most of last year’s entire Month of May – it is a spectacular day at IMS. It is warm with clear skies. I’m not sure we saw a day this nice all of last May.
For those wondering, Susan did come with me. The liver bag causes her to lose electrolytes (as well as messes up her kidneys) and causes her to become very tired, very quickly. Once she has her procedure done, her stamina should come back. But she is here and happy to be back.
We made a stop in Columbus, and I noticed that it was about fifteen minutes after the early session was about to start. I pulled up the You Tube feed on my phone and noticed no cars were running. A few comments revealed that they were under a delay. I texted my friend Mike Silver, who was already in the Media Center. He informed me that there was a “connectivity” issue. Due to the delay, today’s afternoon session will run until 7:00 pm.
With the ongoing delay, we decided to go ahead and stop at The Workingman’s Friend. It was as good as usual, but they changed the fries from krinkle fries to some very boring generic overcooked 5/16” cut fries. But the burger (and atmosphere) was great!
The cars had just started running when we got here. There is nothing like hearing the echoes of the cars bounce through the stands for the first time of the year. It lets you know all is right with the world.
For the record, Alex Palou led the first session and Scott Dixon was second-quick. Felix Rosenqvist was third-quick in an MSR car linked to Ganassi through a technical alliance. Is this a preview of May, or just a good session in April?
The rookies and refreshers are out now. We are going to take this opportunity to go over to the museum and check out the new gift shop.
I will have something quick here after practice, before heading to Dawson’s and then checking into our hotel. It’s great to be back!
