Finally Arrived at IMS
Well, I have finally arrived at IMS. I left the house promptly at 4:30 am Central time. Things were going great until I got about halfway through the state of Kentucky. I topped a hill and encountered brake lights attached to cars sitting still.
As I came to a stop, I figured this would be a five-minute delay. As it turned out, I did not move another inch for another two hours and ten minutes. I was getting more and more frustrated as time wore on. I pulled up Peacock on my phone and watched the beginning of the Open Test, while I was still hours away.
That frustration quickly went away after we started moving. I went about a mile and saw why we were stopped. I won’t get into the gruesome details, but it involved two 18-wheelers and what looked like an Audi sedan. Suffice it to say, I think it was unlikely the occupants of the Audi survived. Suddenly, my delay no longer seemed important.
When I hit Louisville, I came upon another wreck. This one was just your typical fender-bender, but it still slowed traffic down to a crawl. What is normally a four and a half hour drive, took me seven hours.
But I’m here and ROP is still going on after a brief rain-delay. I’m going to go out and about before the rain that I drove through gets here for good. I’ll have a wrap-up post once the day is finished. The day is scheduled to end at 6:30 pm EDT, but I have an idea Mother Nature will intervene before then.
Please check back later.

Glad you made it to your intended destination today. I might have aborted the mission and returned to the Fort Livingroom airport in Nashville and spent my lunch money on lotto scratchers on the way back in both states, LOL

I feel for you George! So you don’t feel bad- I drove up from Louisville and back in the rain both ways to see maybe an hour of action at the most. I was lucky enough to have the day off from work so after turning on Peacock at 9 am and seeing no rain in Indianapolis I was gone. Sat in turn 2 grandstands with the folks. I just wish it would have lasted longer.
