Oilpressure Heads West for the Weekend
As most of you are reading this, I am boarding an airplane bound for Boise, Idaho to visit with my son and grandson. Actually the plane I am boarding in Nashville is bound for Seattle. After a five hour and fifteen minute flight, I’ll only have a forty-five minute layover in Seattle, before catching my flight to Boise.
This will only be my second time to see my grandson, who is twenty months old now. You may recall that Susan and I flew out there in December of 2022 to see him when he was only six-months old. As you can imagine, he has grown quite a bit since then.
Susan is not joining me on this trip, for financial reasons only. Her health is fine, but she has gone back to work part-time – which means no benefits, which means no vacation. If she takes off, she does it with no pay. She would prefer to save those times for race weekends. After all…this isn’t her grandchild (by blood, anyway).
The last time we went, it was airfare for two, plus a hotel and picking up tabs like dads do. Total cost was over $2,000 for the weekend. I don’t consider myself cheap, but that’s a good healthy chunk out of my bank account. Two months later, my son started asking when we were coming back. “Umm…it’ll be a while.”
Well, now it’s been a while. I got a much cheaper flight than last time, and I’m sleeping on their couch. I couldn’t do that with Susan. I have an idea by the time I leave, they’ll be very happy to see me go. I’m not sure, but I think Susan is looking forward to my absence this weekend also. It’s nice to be loved by all of your family members
Anyway, this is a long drawn-out way of saying that I will be taking a couple of days off away from here. I don’t think it would be well received if I spent my time out there in front of a keyboard. Instead, I’ll be doing grandfatherly things. While out there, I will also do a very unscientific survey to see how many locals are aware of their latest hometown here – Sting Ray Robb.
Consequently, I will not post here on Friday March 1 or Monday March 4. I will return here on Wednesday March 6, just a couple of days before practice begins for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Please check back then!

When you will have retuned, there surely is going to be a lot to catch up on about the sport and to report about on here.
