A Good Day to Miss

Greetings from my warm and dry couch in west Nashville, far away from the festivities going on in downtown Nashville. I had already decided to sit out today’s track activities, but seeing George drive off this morning in the rain convinced me I made the right decision. I wasn’t avoiding the rain, but yesterday about did me in.

I had to do a last-minute wedding cake for a friend last week. Those always wore me out when I was healthy, and had plenty of notice. I learned last Wednesday that my friend’s son was getting married last Saturday, and their baker backed out at the last minute. George told me not to do it, but what was I to do?

A week later, I’m still very tired from that. The heat during Friday’s practice made me feel like I was about to melt. I’m hoping the weather is decent tomorrow, and that I have some energy. After watching this morning’s practice, I’m happy I’m here.

I know George said I would have pictures on here. The problem is, they are still in my camera and my camera is still in his car at the stadium. He has no clue how to get them out, nor does he have the adapter on his computer. He uses a PC, while I’ve always been a Mac person. So—there will be no pictures.

But I did notice that they have stepped up the concessions for this year’s race. Remember this time last year, I was in the hospital and missed this race, but I was here the first year. One booth I noticed was Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint, which is one of the two top barbeque spots in town. It’s actually my favorite and George’s second favorite place. If you are in need of an alcoholic beverage, you only have to go about 5 feet to find one available.

Another big improvement is it seems like they’ve added a lot more video screens around the track. George always likes to watch any IndyCar track activity from the pits. I like going to turns where you can actually see more than the top of the cars going by, but since that’s what he likes—that’s what we do. They now have large video screens across from the pits that make it easy to see what is going on. I’m sure they are for the fans in the suites behind the pits, but we get to watch them to.

It’s a shame the rain has really ruined the weekend, but in all honesty—I’m glad I’m not there.
